Anthony O'Neill and the Murder – The Endless Plain of Fortune
The South Africa gold rush of the early 1900s, in the time between the collapse of the empire and the Great War. People from every walk of life sought their fortune – and when the gold and gems ran dry, so did the dreams.

A reminder that vengeance is a dish best served at 90°C (service wash, full spin cycle). With very humble nods to Serge Gainsbourg and Julien Doré.

The Baby Snakes – The L&N Don't Stop Here
Track 1 from the EP Four Foot-tappin' Greats, released in 1992. This was recorded in the first of two sessions at GLR's studio in London. All of the tracks in this session were recorded in mono – this was the only one that was actually released. Due to the size of the studio – it was used for interviews and voice overs usually – we had a very stripped-down approach. Nigel only used one snare drum with a t-shirt over it to avoid overloading the microphone (and that is singular – it was all recorded on one mic). This was take three from the sessions. Bass – Anthony O'Neill Drums – Nigel Preston Electric Guitar – Alex Hooper Vocals and acoustic guitar – Frank Rynne

The Baby Snakes – Beans For Breakfast
Track 2 from the EP Four Foot-tappin' Greats, released in 1992. Recorded in GLR's studios on the second of two sessions. This was a first take and we were all really pleased with how tight it was. Unlike the first session, this was recorded in stereo rather than mono. When we met Johnny Cash not long after this, he was curious about why we chose it - it was off his recent album "The Mystery of Life" and he'd recorded it as a bit of a joke for himself. Bass – Anthony O'Neill Drums – Nigel Preston Electric Guitar – Alex Hooper Percussion – Tom Hooper Vocals and acoustic guitar – Frank Rynne

The Baby Snakes – Long Black Veil
Track 3from the EP Four Foot-tappin' Greats, released in 1992. Take four from the second session – recorded in stereo. Nigel and Tom had a bit more leeway with equipment on the second session – not quite a full drum kit, but more than the single snare used on the first sessin. Other equipment details: Alex played a Fender Telecaster through a Vox AC30, both previously owned by Gun Club singer Jeffrey Lee Pierce. Anthony played a modified Hohner B2A bass through a Carlsbro bass head running into a cabinet of unknown provenance. Bass – Anthony O'Neill Drums – Nigel Preston Electric Guitar – Alex Hooper Percussion – Tom Hooper Vocals and acoustic guitar– Frank Rynne

The Baby Snakes – Folsom Prison Blues
Track 4 from the EP. Four Foot-tappin' Greats, released in 1992. Recorded Live at the Mean Fiddler Acoustic Room. This was the only track released from this live set, which was recorded live to DAT using a stereo microphone to capture the room sound. Jeffrey Lee Pierce joined the band onstage for one song, playing harmonica. Support came from a folk singer called Edwige and a country rock band called Praying for the Rain. Bass – Anthony O'Neill Drums – Nigel Preston Electric Guitar – Alex Hooper Vocals and acoustic guitar – Frank Rynne

The Baby Snakes – Ring of Fire
Unreleased track from the EP Four Foot-tappin' Greats, released in 1992. This was a fourth take from the first session, recorded in mono. Like the majority of the tracks recorded in these sessions (around 40 in total), it was never released. However, it was broadcast on GLR's Irish London Programme about an hour after the session concluded, and was captured on a radio cassette recorder, hence the poor quality. Bass – Anthony O'Neill Drums – Nigel Preston Electric Guitar – Alex Hooper Vocals and acoustic guitar – Frank Rynne
